Seated Chair Yoga for Relaxation and Mobility with Coach Mark

Coach Mark Bodner from the Center for Movement Challenges introduces a 20-25 minute seated chair yoga session designed for relaxation, mobility, and overall well-being.

Chair Selection: Use a sturdy, armless chair without wheels to ensure safety. Sit on a flat, level seat to support posture.

Guidelines for Practice:

  • No Pain Rule: Avoid any movements that cause discomfort. Modify or skip poses as needed.
  • Range of Motion: Follow your own comfort level without forcing movements.
  • Rest When Needed: Pause or take breaks as necessary.

Initial Centering: Begin by grounding your feet, finding balance, and relaxing the body. Use deep, natural breaths to prepare for the practice.

Key Movements and Exercises:

  • Spinal Flexion and Extension (Slouch and Anti-Slouch): Encourage a flexible spine.
  • Neck Movements: Slow rotations and lateral stretches to release tension.
  • Shoulder Rolls and Arm Extensions: Improve upper body mobility and reduce stiffness.
  • Breathing Exercises: Deep, abdominal breaths to relax and energize the body.
  • Core and Spine Strengthening: Gentle twists and lateral bends to maintain trunk flexibility.
  • Lower Body Focus: Stretch the hamstrings, hips, quadriceps, ankles, and feet to support balance and strength.

Final Centering and Gratitude: End the session by relaxing the body, observing your breath, and reflecting on gratitude to foster mindfulness and peace.
