Benefits of CFMC In-Person Training
The Center for Movement Challenges offers in-person, evidence-based exercise programs for people with Parkinson’s in Atlanta, providing specialized fitness classes and wellness services tailored to the unique needs of individuals living with Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders. Our personalized programs focus on improving strength, balance, flexibility, and overall mobility to enhance quality of life.
1. Initial Evaluation and Orientation
- All new members have the opportunity to undergo a comprehensive orientation, including an assessment by a licensed physical therapist.
- The evaluation ensures that classes are safe and appropriately tailored to each participant's needs and abilities.
2. Core Classes
Non-Contact Boxing
- Focuses on strength, endurance, coordination, and agility, with both seated and standing participation options available.
Optimizing Movement
- A physical therapy-based fitness class designed to improve strength, balance, posture, flexibility, and safe movement through structured routines
Yoga
- Encourages relaxation and mindfulness while improving balance, posture, joint mobility, breathing, and stress management.
General Fitness
-A well-rounded class to build strength, endurance, balance, and mobility. Exercises can be modified for seated or standing participation.
Mat Pilates
A low-impact class focused on core strength, flexibility, posture, and body awareness. Movements can be adapted for all levels.
3. Special Activities
Pickleball for Fun and Fitness
- Combines physical activity with social interaction, suitable for all skill levels. Improves coordination and balance to help reduce fall risks.

Additional Support Services
Our wellness partners offer a variety of supportive services designed to help individuals with Parkinson’s and other movement challenges improve mobility, strength, communication, flexibility, daily functioning, and overall quality of life. Services may include physical therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, massage therapy, and other wellness-focused support tailored to individual needs.
Physical Therapy
- Provided by Synapse NeuroRehab & Wellness, these one-on-one sessions address specific rehabilitation goals.
Massage Therapy
- Provided by Star Dynamic Wellness, offers osteopath-based therapy to alleviate pain and enhance flexibility.
Speech Maintenance
- Emphasizes voice projection, articulation, annunciation, facial movement, breathing techniques, and cognition.
Occupational Therapy
- Helps recover, improve, and maintain skills needed for daily living activities (ADL’s).
Support Groups
- The program emphasizes mental health and social connectivity through in-person support groups. Participants can share experiences, seek support, gain guidance, make new friends, and connect with others facing similar challenges.
Caregiver & Family Resources
- Dedicated programs and resources for family members to ensure holistic care.
